Lines

You can't get away from them and I don't have the patience for them.  There are lines everywhere.

There are lines at the airport; lines of cars, lines to check bags; lines to be screened and lines to get on the plane.  And if you opt for the road instead - there are lines of traffic, lines at the toll booth, lines at the rest stop - let's not even mention the rest room.  And then there are Options 3 and 4 take the bus or train.   I am sure that somewhere along there, there are also lines.  But not too many people are traveling at this time.  Wait time should be way down, you would think.

Last week, I went to Target at 7:30 am for its 8:00 am opening.  To my surprise, the line had already weaved around the building.  I left and went to BJ's for its 9 am opening.  And guess what?  That line also wended around the building from two directions. Needless to say, whatever I wanted wasn't important for me to stand on line. I opted not to wait.

Today, I needed something so I stood on line and waited.

There are food distribution lines to assist those in need at this time.  The notice will say 1 pm pick up and yet people will be there at 10 am.  Something about the early bird.  The saddest part of this is that because of social distancing, these events are held outdoors.  People brave all kinds of elements and stand on line through it.

Even online there are lines.  People have had a hard time getting through to the Depatment of Labor to claim unemployment, with hours and hours and days of waiting.  Online is taxed by too many on at the same time.  Phone lines are jammed.   And so people wait and wait.

To get a COVID test, there are lines.  Lines on the phone when you call.  You wait 20 minutes. 1/2 hour, one hour.  Then you get to the site and you are part of a long line, even though you were given a specific time for your test.

For the most part, these Corona Times do not give us options.  We stand on line and we wait.

  1. I don’t do lines either. There is nothing I need that bad that I would stand on line for. My one and only store is CVS, if they don’t have it, I don’t need it, and I have yet to see a line. I wonder if those in line if questioned about what they were standing in line for were really necessities? Maybe some people like the hype?
