I attended a Zoom funeral on April 14th. The body had already been buried the day before, so this was actually a memorial service. Everyone, including the pastor, tuned in from our homes. It was well done and strangely it worked quite well. The service lasted an hour, but we stayed on Zoom for an additional hour or more, reminiscing, viewing photos and listening to the departed favorite music.
A new norm may become the new wave. Family from afar will not have to fly/drive/train in. There will be no repass and no cost for food. The program will be sent by email or online; say goodbye to that cost, plus the cost of the church, musician, flowers and additional undertaking costs. Many people are now cremating and that is going to change the mindset of many who never considered cremation as an option, thus lessening the overall cost even much more.
We will save all this money at the real cost of no personal contact, no hugging, no comforting.
After surviving COVID-19, I started to write, giving birth to The Corona Chronicles, my daily thoughts and musings. I find writing therapeutic. It's my personal journey through COVID-19. It will give insight into the suffering, but also the goodness of people. Heather's Dawning is made up of my first (Heather) and pet (Dawn) names. It's my awakening. Covid-19 may have knocked me down, but it also awakened my creativity.
